Earlier this month, Charlotte’s Rooms was given an incredible platform thanks to the dedication of Dr. Emma, one of our founding supporters and a passionate advocate for family wellbeing in clinical settings.

Emma had the honour of presenting at the East Midlands Critical Care and Perioperative Medicine Conference, where she shared her talk titled:
"A Doctor’s Personal Mission to Foster Family Connection in the Critical Care Setting."

With over 100 people attending in person and another 500 tuning in online, her heartfelt presentation struck a chord. It explored the vital importance of emotional space for families during medical crises — and how Charlotte’s Rooms is working to meet that need by creating warm, welcoming hospital rooms for reflection, privacy, and connection.

Recognition — and a Gift to Grow Our Mission

We’re thrilled to share that Emma’s talk was awarded first place in the conference’s abstract competition, securing a £500 prize.

But that’s not where the kindness ended.

In a deeply humbling moment, the second and third place winners chose to donate their prize money to Charlotte’s Rooms as well, bringing the total donation to an incredible £875.

Their generosity reflects a shared belief in the power of what we’re building — and a shared understanding of the emotional toll critical care takes on families.

Gratitude and Next Steps

This recognition means so much to us, not just because of the funding (which will directly support future room installations), but because it shows that our message is resonating with healthcare professionals — the very people who see the impact of family presence and emotional support every day.

We’re beyond grateful to Emma for using her platform to amplify Charlotte’s legacy, and to the conference organisers and fellow participants who showed such extraordinary generosity.

Together, we’re helping families feel less alone when they need it most.
