Our Mission

At Charlotte’s Rooms, our mission is simple but deeply powerful: to bring calm, comfort and dignity to families facing the most difficult moments of their lives. We create beautifully designed family rooms within hospital intensive care units (ICUs) and critical care wards.

These spaces are often the only place where loved ones can sit together, have difficult conversations, or simply take a breath away from the noise and urgency of the clinical setting. In times of unimaginable stress, we believe that the smallest acts of care — a quiet room, a soft chair, a peaceful colour palette — can make a profound difference.

Our work is inspired by the memory of Charlotte and the experiences of families like hers. Charlotte’s Room was created in her name as a response to a simple but urgent need: a better space for families to wait, grieve, hope, and be together.

What began as one room has become a growing mission to transform hospital spaces with empathy and intention. We work closely with NHS teams to identify underused or outdated family rooms in ICUs and reimagine them as calm, welcoming environments. Each space is thoughtfully designed, with input from families and staff, and funded entirely by donations and fundraising through our supporters.

But Charlotte’s Rooms is about more than just interiors. It’s about dignity. It’s about giving families somewhere to cry, to hold hands, to hear life-changing news — in a space that doesn’t feel clinical or cold. It’s about helping people feel less alone, even for a moment.

We believe that hospitals should care for the whole family, not just the patient. And we believe that together — with compassion, community and creativity — we can make every room a space that truly cares.
